Not many years ago, I felt and thought the way many people still feel today about Identity theft.

                 - It won't happen to me

                 - It's not a big deal

                 - My credit is no good anyway

To my surprise, I was wrong.... very, VERY wrong!!

I became a victim of IDT through eBay.  Someone had charged over $10,000 worth of merchandise using my ID and password.

How could this have happened?  I thought I was diligent in protecting this information; obviously not.

Luckily this incident was caught right away by eBay and stopped.  The login ID and password was all the thief had on me.

This was a HUGE eye opener for me!!!

From that point on, I became a believer that Identity Theft is real and anybody... yes ANYBODY can become a victim.  Identity thieves do not discriminate on who their victims are.

After being exposed and learning about Identity Theft protection, I developed a real passion in wanting to learn more.

I became a Certified Identity Theft Risk Management Specialist (CITRMS), receiving this certification through The Institute of Fraud Risk Management who is unrelated to PrePaid Legal Services, Inc.

The information I learned by obtaining this certification made my jaw drop; I couldn't believe how HUGE identity theft really was or how far reaching and devastating IDT could potentially be to innocent victims like you and me.

I learned about the 5 areas of identity theft and identity theft laws.

I began researching and reading policy after policy about many of the various IDT Protection Plans on the market.  I now read daily, article after article about real life victims of IDT and how this #1 crime in America has affected not only innocent victims, but companies and our government as well.

After studying this information and talking to 1000's of people, I have found that the general public does not know about nor do they understand what Identity Theft truly is.

I have developed a passion to educate the public on what IDT is and some of the steps you can take to not only better protect yourself, but protect your business as well.
