I cannot suggest to you highly enough, and as my intention is not to sound like a broken record, READ the policies of ID Theft Plans.

Having a $1 million guarantee really means this - you will need to restore your own identity!! ... Besides becoming a victim of ID Theft, you will now have to deal with the burden and frustration of restoring your own identity. These are resolution products, they do not and will not completely restore your identity for you!!

Let me ask you.... if someone is going to restore your identity for you, why would they offer to pay your salary for ‘x’ amount of weeks (usually 4 up to $500)?? ... Why are these companies telling you they will reimburse your costs/fees, because YOU will be restoring your own identities. I have personally spoken with victims who have told me it has taken months, to years and some still fighting this nightmare.

There is only one (1) company that I have found to date that will FULLY restore your identity while you go about your daily routine. Plus, they do this for minors also, not just place credit freezes on their credit reports.

Dataloss and ID Theft

The media sees these subjects as being more important than reporting on how the average person and company needs to protect your most valuable asset - Your Identity. To top things off, the general public thinks these subjects are more important and really, I believe, don’t want to hear the TRUTH about ID Theft. “Out of site - Out of mind”, “If I don’t know about, it can’t hurt me”, burying your head in the sand is not the protection you need, you need to protect yourself in the best possible way and that is through education and learning the various techniques to decrease your exposure to ID Theft.

Also, what confounds me, is the belief that Identity Theft is still financial in nature. ... This is the easiest ID Theft to repair yet, other types of ID Theft are more devastating to yourself, your family and your business. Don’t be swayed by these huge guarantees, they won’t repay you for any losses you incur, these guarantees are simply ‘service’ guarantees - that’s it. Plus, as the consumer of these services, you are still responsible for the leg work in repairing your own identity and at the mercy of these companies to look out for your best interest. You can’t ‘monitor all the chat rooms online’ as some ID Theft plans boast, that’s virtually impossible!!

I suggest before you buy a heavily marketed, so-called ID Theft product or service, READ what it will do for you!!

...I know this post is a little harsh for some, although if you don’t take responsibility for your own identity, educate yourself, use some easily implemented and necessary steps to protect your own identity and the identity of those you care for.

Can You Catch a Computer Virus?

Another step has been taken to increase the “Scary” scale of what can be done electronically that will cause havoc to your computer at home or in your business. A man has ‘captured’ a computer virus, implanted it into a chip and can now transfer this virus through an RFID reader. He used the same technology that is used to implant a chip into your pet for identification.

To further increase the “Scary” scale, this man implanted the infected chip into his hand so now.... it’s concealed and no one is the wiser of his intentions. Ladies and Gentlemen, this technology is here now!!! No longer will you read about it as a ‘concept’ or as a ‘potential threat’ - this ability is here now and has been demonstrated. This man captured the virus and implanted it as a demonstration of what CAN be done if someone had the ability. This was not done to be malicious or destructive in any way, only to prove a point. I have talked with many companies and I have been told that if these regulations applied to them, they would have been told by either their insurance company or their attorney. ... MANY people, companies and representatives for these companies are not aware of these regulations. ... Whether they are disgruntled with their employer or have fallen on hard times and see the procurement and selling of PII (Personal Identifiable Information) & NPI (Non-Public Information) as a way to make money to support either themselves or their families.

If you didn’t know about these regulations and definitions, then your insurance company and/or attorney doesn’t know about them either. Don’t blame them..... the government is not sending out notices to every business informing them of what is required. Be proactive, take the bull by the horns and protect yourself, your company, your clients/customers and your employees.

Busy - Busy - Busy..... I have been giving ID Theft presentations to area groups and received a lot of positive feedback. As I mention, the american public IS NOT being told what ID Theft is which is evidenced through testimonials after my presentations.

I am frequently told the information I provide, provides a broader picture and understanding of the true face of ID Theft. No only regarding the types of ID Theft, but ID Theft protection plans as well. Don’t believe anyone that tells you they can “prevent” ID Theft, no one can!! The analogy I use is: “If you build a 10 foot ladder, ID thieves will build a 12 foot ladder.”

...Don’t be lured into a false sense of security by some of the pitch men out in the market telling you that if you use our product, you’ll be protected. ... There are some marketing plans you see frequently, massive amounts of ad dollars to have you believe ID Theft Protection = XYZ Company.

...I don’t mean to get on my soapbox although I become SO frustrated to see how people are deceived and not told the whole story and given ALL the facts about this devastating crime. The media does it, newspaper does it and companies, too, are lured into the same ploy.

This is the reason I offer ID training & education presentations at no cost to groups, companies and organizations.

...For those of you that believe, “That won’t happen to me, it only happens to someone else.” As I sit here writing this blog post, realize, YOU are someone else to me. I don’t want anyone to be without ID Theft protection, it can devastate not only the victim, but the entire family as well.

Surprisingly, or maybe not too much of a surprise, these same companies boast that they are best identity theft plan available - my question, to do what??

...Because that’s the only way you will be able to take advantage of the so-called guarantee in many cases. ... These are Service guarantees, only coming into play if a companies “service” fails to do what you are told it will do. These policies do not and will not reimburse you for losses related to becoming a victim of Identity Theft.

... Additionally, these ID theft plans that boast they are ‘all that and a bag of potato chips’ are nothing more than credit monitoring programs AT BEST and will only address Financial ID theft, which is at best, 26% of committed ID theft. There are many other areas of ID theft that are more damaging and have been the cause of people dying.

Let me ask you this, “If an insurance company wanted to sell you auto insurance that only covered you 26% of the time, would you buy it?” ... So, why would you waste your money on an ID theft protection plan that does exactly that??

When will companies understand that people need to be protected from ALL areas of ID theft; not just put together a plan to make a quick buck, still leave the bulk of the work of restoring your identity to the victim and genuinely look out for the best interest of their client??

Drivers License – Again, this can be used for identification, it has nothing to do with establishing credit or financial IDT.

...This is where people use your credit card or bank accounts to make purchases which you end up paying for.

...Unfortunately, IDT can literally destroy your life and put you out of business if, as a business owner, you lose your clients or customers personal information. Here’s the kicker you need to be aware of, according to FACTA (Fair and Accurate Credit Transaction Act), there is no statutory limitation if you lose someone’s NPI. ... The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has required businesses that collect and/or aggregate NPI place specific policies and make specific changes to the collection and storage process of NPI. These policies are in accordance with the FACTA Disposal Rule and Red Flags Rule, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the Graham Leach Bliley Safeguard Rule.

...Just about every Identity Theft plan on the market will not protect a covered member from all 5 areas of Identity Theft. ... If you are paying for coverage, find out what is covered, what the plan covers in the event your identity is stolen and what your responsibilities are. ... Many will pay postage, notary fees, and reapplication fees, along with some reimbursement for lost wages if your plan requires you to restore your identity; there may be no reimbursement for time lost if you are self-employed.

Are we being told everything??

They can have my identity; nobody would want to be me. I don’t have any money, so they can’t get anything from me. These are only a few reasons people give in denial that Identity Theft can happen to them. ... What most people also don’t realize is that they have given their personal information out – voluntarily. Credit cards, loans, cell phone contracts, schools, utility companies, insurance agencies are only a few of the areas where people have voluntarily provided all their personal, non-public information (NPI) without thinking twice.

The general public is frequently misled by TV, radio, written news and articles and are led to believe Identity Theft is by in large primarily financial. In all actuality, Financial Identity Theft only accounts for approximately 26% of Identity Theft according to the FTC. There are actually 5 major areas of Identity Theft – Social Security, Drivers License, Character & Criminal, Medical and Financial. A sixth form of Identity Theft that is on the rise is Synthetic Identity Theft. To date, there have been 342 million data records exposed from the U.S. alone related to security breaches (privacyrights.org).
