Business Copiers
and Your Business

Your Business Copier is harboring personal and private information of not only your company, but personal, non-public information of your clients. This type of information is YOUR responsibility to protect. I have been educating Small Business owners of the potential breach of information if the hard drives are stolen from their printers.... over the past 3 years. I would say over 90% of the owners I spoke to had no idea that there was a hard drive in the printer storing this information.

You need to have your IT professional set up some sort of deleting program to protect this information. As stated in this video, some copiers come with an upgrade or option that will do this on their own. If you think the $500 price tag is too high, What do you think it will cost to defend a lawsuit from your clients or vendors in the event of a data breach??
Just because you don't see the harddrive installed in the printer, it is YOUR responsibility..... period!! The same holds true if you store files and information online or off-site. This information is still YOUR responsibility to protect, which is why you need to ensure the company that is storing your information is fulfilling the requirements of the FTC.
